Requirements
The curriculum to become a Certified Sex and Couples Therapist (CSCT) provides cutting edge training in Sex Therapy, Couples Therapy and Integrative Therapy so that the student can become a practitioner with a proficient level of expertise to offer a complete integrative perspective to their clients.
The CSCT program accomplishes this by offering courses taught by the best in the field of sex therapy - the masters in private practice, the researchers, scientists and authors - who currently have sex therapy practices.
To assure a thorough understanding is accomplished, the curriculum is divided into three main categories and four sub-categories within each main category. There is a minimum of 3 clock hours required for each sub-category and, where applicable, no more than 20 clock hours in any single sub-category.

Sex Therapy; Healing the Sexual Space - 50 hours
All Sex Therapy courses provide training in direct interventions including the assessing and treatment of sexual dysfunction and desire issues, sexual empathy, erotic recovery, and group therapy for relationship goals. Courses include solid theoretical and therapeutic directives as well as core clinical foundations so that practitioners can leave the program confident in how to create a therapeutically healing space. |
Participants in these courses may apply CE’s toward the 150 hours required for AASECT CST certification and be eligible for the 50 hours required for the new Certification in Sex and Couples Therapy (CSCT) offered by the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute (ISTI). Counseling; Relating in Relationship – 30 hours
Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy is a new field of learning for all therapists that builds on and provides the fundamentals of relationship psychotherapy, interventions for alternative relationships and provides not only a solid clinical foundation but also takes a deep dive into ever more challenging case work. Courses include the fundamentals of couple’s therapy and how to relate in relationship, both as the therapist to the client and within the therapeutic dyad. Courses cover the dynamics of reflective dialogue and students learn interventions including reflective dialogue skills, validation vs, forgiveness, empathy, relational recovery, group therapy, and how to create new monogamy agreements. Courses include a solid theoretical training in multiple schools of relationship therapy and therapeutic interventions from varied models of thought in order to best serve a variety of clients. |
Goals of the courses in these categories include how to counsel couples in beginning sessions, and with more difficult issues, and how to create a vision for the future. The courses teach participants how to heal the relational space from trauma, betrayal, neglect and how to create intentional divorce if necessary. Participants in these courses may apply CE’s toward the 16 hours required for AASECT CST certification and be eligible for the 30 hours required for the new Certification in Sex and Couples Therapy (CSCT) offered by the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute (ISTI). Integrative; Alternative Interventions – 15 hours
The future of this field demands that clinical professionals integrate both sex therapy and relationship counseling in order to keep up with the challenges of contemporary practice. Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy is a new field of learning for all therapists that builds on sex therapy and relationship therapy and adds a third area: alternative forms of treatment that are designed specifically to meet the contemporary needs of today’s clients. Professionals who study in this unique area of Integrative Therapy and Alternative Interventions will learn the fundamentals of relationship and sexual psychotherapy along with directives to create a safe, healing space for treating contemporary, alternative relationship structures. Students will also discern the difference between intuitive vs intervention counseling and how to apply integrative therapy to their work. |
Students will choose from courses that intrigue them and challenge them, including mindfulness practice, intuition and empathy, basics of integrative therapy, and creating agreements for alternative relationships. Courses also include alternative learning and success courses including writing and publishing, creating and expanding a business, and growing a transformational life. All those participating in these courses will receive CE’s that can be applied toward their Certification in Sex and Couples Therapy (CSCT) offered by the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute (ISTI). The courses for the Integrative Therapy Categories can only be taken through the ISTI program and cannot be transferred in from other programs without prior consent of Director.
