About
As a therapist, you are required to be on “top form” for your clients to help them in therapy. How you show up and your self-care is vital to being the therapist you aspire to be. Sex therapists are often susceptible to burnout and secondary post-traumatic stress because of the often-intense nature of their healing work. Frequently referred to as compassion fatigue, this course will provide you with the necessary training and tools to help avoid and work through these issues. Join Dr. Tammy Nelson and learn from research, case examples and her own clinical practice about: • the theories of compassion fatigue and secondary trauma • the adverse impact of compassion fatigue and burnout on your therapy work • heightened awareness of when you’re at risk • navigating transference and countertransference and power differential conflicts • self-care techniques, including art therapy, breathing, yoga, and mindfulness. This course will help you create a vision for your own clinical work and help foster effective and ethical relationships with clients, colleagues – and yourself.
